Local Tourist Attractions

For visiting tourist attractions Ty Tandderwen couldn’t be better, situated as it is on the edge of Bala and the Snowdonia National Park, and just a short distance from both Bala Lake and the market town of Bala. For outdoor adventures and water sports, Bala Lake is hard to beat. From kayaking and canoeing to windsurfing and white water rafting, the Adventure and Watersports Centre at Bala Lake has classes and activities for all ages and abilities. There’s plenty to do out of the water too, with mountain biking, gorge walking, archery and camp skills just a few of the things on offer.

If outdoor thrills and spills aren’t your thing, the area has plenty of other attractions and activities to tempt you. Visit Betws-y-Coed and explore the charming independent boutiques and craft shops, or spend a fascinating afternoon at Trefriw Woollen Mills, learning about the old, but thriving, traditions of Welsh blanket making and weaving.

If historical sites appeal, this part of Wales has plenty to choose from. Visit the magnificent castles of Harlech, Caernarfon, Beaumaris or Conwy, or head to the stunning Powis Castle to the south, to enjoy its stately splendour and exquisite gardens. Portmeirion is within easy reach, and so is Anglesey, with its family-friendly beaches and charming market towns.

Other attractions to discover include Caerau Uchaf Gardens, the North Wales Owl Sanctuary and Byd Mary Jones World, a unique heritage centre on the edge of Lake Bala. A little further afield, the Centre for Alternative Technology makes a fascinating trip, and MOMA Machynlleth is not to be missed.

Visitors who would like to eat out whilst on holiday at Ty Tandderwen are spoilt for choice. Nearby Bala has plenty of restaurant options to suit all tastes and budgets, with our favourites including Y Cwrt and The Bulls Head. Further afield, The Berwyn in Corwen is a popular choice with families and couples, and The Eagles Inn, at the south-western end of Bala Lake, serves magnificent pub food in a relaxed setting.
